What I learned from producing this lifestyle product video and photography.
So I am gonna jump straight in and say if you are feeling a little heavy as you think your not getting anywhere in your freelance game, you gotta get your heart and head back into the game and spread the word about what you do online.
It works. It may not work overnight But the seeds you sow today may reap a harvest, a week, a month or a year down the line.
You got this kid. You can do it. If a little girl from Africa like me can start making this dream work, then anyone can.
So the weather turned out to be pretty darn spectacular on the shoot day. If you live in the UK you know this is a total gamble 90% of the time.
THE PRODUCT IS PRETTY COOL, AND I KNOW THE ISSUES I HAVE WITH CARRYING A PADDLEBOARD WILL BE SORTED OUT.
Here is what I learned and what you may find useful to apply to your own video/photo game plan.
- WRITE DOWN YOUR HOURS AND WHAT YOU DO. You may get caught up in enjoying what you are doing or working too hard and late and you will forget. This way you lose the opportunity to strategize how much you charge and how long it takes you to get tasks in the edit or production process.
- SAVE TIME. CUT OUT EMAILS. I had the client sit with me while we edited. He was on a very tight budget, and to save time I asked him to sit with me to do a big chunk of the work and remove the time waister of the back and forth of emails. I really liked working with the Client, as I knew exactly what they wanted without having to interpret emails. There was an awkward moment when my big brother came into my room and asked for his HDMI cable, which I was using with the client. I kinda needed it, slightly awks , But I am hoping it all added to the ”I’m so chill the client is part of the family” vibes.
- STEP AWAY. Step back from the work, if you have been pushing the edit to long and hard, you’re not thinking straight, have a good night rest and revisit when you are well watered, fed and rested. Talking of sleep. It’s past my bedtime Goodnight, you little hustlers.
